A 21-year-old has been handed a 15-year prison sentence after authorities uncovered his plot to carry out a terrorist attack at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour performance in Vienna, Austria.

Identified as Beran A under Austrian privacy protections, the man confessed to planning a jihadist attack targeting the concert series scheduled for August 2024 at Ernst Happel Stadium. According to the BBC, he pledged allegiance to Islamic State and made attempts to acquire weapons through illegal channels.

During proceedings at Regional Court Wiener Neustadt on May 28, a court psychiatrist determined the defendant showed no indicators of mental illness and found "no psychiatric explanation" for his radicalization.

The defendant also admitted to additional terrorism-related offenses, including an attack in Mecca, and offered an apology to the court during the hearing.

The CIA arrested Beran A following a tip that came just before the opening night of the three sold-out shows. Swift subsequently canceled all three scheduled performances.

Following the incident, Swift released a statement addressing the situation. The cancellation and her subsequent remarks also touched on her public silence regarding political matters, amid circulation of AI-generated imagery attempting to link her to political figures and speculation about potential appearances at major political events.
