A$AP Rocky Launches 'Don't Be Dumb' Tour with Explosive Chicago Debut

A$AP Rocky brought his ambitious new tour to life on Wednesday night, launching the Don't Be Dumb Tour at Chicago's United Center. The 37-year-old rapper's opening performance marked the beginning of a 42-date run promoted by Live Nation in support of his first studio album in nearly a decade.

The production proved to be a spectacle from the opening moments. Flashbang fireworks, twin helicopters, sweeping searchlights, and blaring alarm effects set the tone as a 50-person crew dressed as a militarized SWAT team commandeered the venue. Rocky took the stage with a vision for inclusive sightlines, telling the crowd: "We designed this show so every view is the perfect view, no matter where you at."

The two-hour set drew from the artist's catalog with 40 tracks, ranging from "Praise the Lord (Da Shine)" and "Sundress" to "Fukk Sleep" and the title track "Don't Be Dumb." The performance also featured collaborative moments with Tommy Revenge and Thoto on several songs, plus selections from A$AP Mob's catalog.

Visually, the show layered in pointed social commentary. Video screens displayed a faux livestream of police action while Rocky performed within a mid-stage compound surrounded by surveillance cameras and inverted American flags. Banners reading "Big Brother is Always Watching" reinforced the aesthetic, with the staging drawing connections to themes of police presence, historical injustice, and systemic inequality reflected in the album itself.

Critical response proved mixed. The Chicago Tribune characterized the concert as "an over-the-top, sometimes unsteady two-hour concert," while The Source called it "grimy, cinematic, chaotic and occasionally thrilling," though noting it was "sloppy, uneven and too self-conscious about its own mistakes." The publication suggested that the show's full potential could materialize as the tour progresses.

The Don't Be Dumb World Tour will continue through major markets including Los Angeles, Toronto, and Houston before concluding on July 11 in New Jersey. This marks Rocky's first headlining tour since 2019's Injured Generation Tour.
