Abbott Elementary Officially Renewed for Season 6
The fifth season of Abbott Elementary wraps up this week with a two-episode finale airing Wednesday, April 22 on ABC. The network will air the first episode at 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by the second at 8:30 p.m. ET—a departure from the show's typical Wednesday 8:30 p.m. ET time slot.
The finale centers on "Ava Fest," with Ava pulling out all the stops to make the event unforgettable. Meanwhile, the Abbott crew finds itself in Miami for PECSA weekend, where speculation begins to mount among the group.
Good news awaits devoted viewers: ABC has greenlit the series for the 2026-2027 television season, a decision the network announced in March.
Since its debut in December 2021, Abbott Elementary has become a beloved fixture on the network. The renewal comes as welcome reassurance for the fanbase, particularly after star Quinta Brunson previously voiced concerns about the show's longevity.
"I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things," Brunson shared with Bustle in a recent interview.
A year earlier, she elaborated on her vision for the show's future in an Elle conversation: "When I first started, I was like, 'Yeah, 10 seasons.' Now I'm like, 'We'll see about that.' That would be a blessing. But also, this is a lot of work. I want to make sure, no matter what, I get to worry not about the numbers or the money, but what kind of story we are telling and feeling when it's time for the story to come to a close."
Details regarding the cast, production timeline, and premiere date for Season 6 have not yet been announced.
