Adrian Grenier Was Almost in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' Says Director David Frankel
Adrian Grenier came close to making an appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, according to the film's director.
The 49-year-old actor, who originated the role of Nate—Anne Hathaway's character Andy's boyfriend—in the original movie, is notably absent from the forthcoming sequel. However, director David Frankel has now disclosed that bringing him back for a brief scene was on the table.
"I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen," Frankel told Entertainment Weekly.
The filmmaker explained that the movie wrapped approximately one month ahead of its theatrical release date, leaving insufficient time to execute the planned appearance. He declined to elaborate on what the cameo would have involved, but he did express admiration for Grenier's response to his exclusion from the project.
"I probably shouldn't say. But, I think I'm thrilled that he did a Starbucks commercial, which was really funny and so self-effacing," Frankel shared. "I love the humility and the comedy of it!"
Grenier's Starbucks spot, in which he humorously addressed being left out of the sequel, generated considerable attention among fans and media outlets tracking the film's development.
