Aidan Quinn Explains His Absence from 'Practical Magic 2'

April 20, 2026

Aidan Quinn has clarified his non-involvement in the forthcoming Practical Magic 2, confirming that the producers simply didn't extend an invitation for him to return.

The 67-year-old actor, who originated the role of detective Gary Hallett opposite Sandra Bullock's Sally Owens in the 1998 original, told SPIN 1038 that he would have gladly accepted a callback to the franchise.

"Oh, yes, of course I would," Quinn said when asked if he would have come back for the sequel following the success of the first film.

Speaking fondly of his time on set, Quinn recalled working alongside both Bullock and Nicole Kidman. "They were both phenomenal to work with. Most of my stuff was with Sandy, but they were both phenomenal to work with. Yeah, we had a good time," he shared.

When the interviewer suggested reaching out to Kidman for the new installment, Quinn noted that such arrangements had already been finalized. "It's already been done," he said, referencing the fact that the film has wrapped and is currently in post-production ahead of its September theatrical release.

Evan Rachel Wood, who portrayed Sally's eldest daughter in the original, is also sitting out the sequel. The official trailer for Practical Magic 2 has already been unveiled as the project prepares for its fall debut.
