Alex Cooper Responds to Toxic Workplace Claims at Unwell Network

Alex Cooper is pushing back against recent workplace allegations leveled at her media company.

The 31-year-old host of Call Her Daddy sat down with the Wall Street Journal to discuss the claims of a "toxic work environment" that Vanity Fair reported earlier this month, drawing from accounts shared by over 40 current and former Unwell employees.

When confronted with the allegations at the start of the interview, Cooper emphasized the challenges of building a startup while expressing confidence in her organization's direction. "I will say that building a startup, there is so much growth that comes with that, and I am extremely proud of what we have built at Unwell. I will just kind of leave it at 'don't believe everything that you read on the Internet,' but I think everyone knows that at this point," she said.

Cooper went on to highlight what she views as the company's strengths. "I think that we have done a really incredible job at Unwell, and I think if you walk the halls, there are so many people that are so happy to work at this company. I think, unfortunately, being a woman in this industry is extremely difficult because you're held to a complete different standard. Whether it's a smear campaign being created for someone's narrative, whatever it be," she explained.

She also reflected on navigating negative coverage, noting that resilience has been key to her career longevity. "I think when you read lies about yourself to fuel something else that is an obvious situation going on, it's hard, but I think the reason that I've had success in this industry is I have really thick skin, and I'm going to keep pushing forward."

The scrutiny of Unwell Network intensified following a Bloomberg News report that also raised concerns about the company and Trending, the parent organization Cooper shares with husband Matt Kaplan that houses both the Unwell Network and her podcast.

Separately, Cooper's public disagreement with fellow influencer Alix Earle has continued to draw attention. When asked about the ongoing tension, Earle downplayed the situation, characterizing it as "exaggerated."
