Alicia Vikander Boards Netflix's 'Enigma Variations' Alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Alicia Vikander is heading to Netflix for the streamer's adaptation of André Aciman's bestselling novel 'Enigma Variations.'

The 37-year-old Swedish-Danish actress will star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the upcoming series, Netflix announced on Monday, June 29. Vikander takes on the role of Claire while Taylor-Johnson plays Paul, the central character whose romantic life unfolds across six transformative years.

The limited series follows a man shaped and reshaped by the lovers who enter and exit his life, exploring themes of desire, identity, and connection across decades. The narrative spans multiple settings—from the Italian coast to a New England campus to the streets of New York—charting how his attachments evolve and complicate his understanding of love and commitment.

Aciman, who previously penned the acclaimed novel 'Call Me By Your Name,' brings his signature lyrical prose to this examination of human passion and longing. The story examines how desire operates beneath the surface of our choices and relationships, asking whether we truly recognize love when we find it.

On the same day the casting news broke, Taylor-Johnson also saw the trailer drop for his horror film 'Werwulf,' another project in his expanding slate of upcoming work.

Vikander and her partner Michael Fassbender recently made several public appearances together at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
