Amal Clooney Opens Up About Life's Complexities After Marrying George Clooney

At a Cartier Dialogues event held in Bangkok, Amal Clooney opened up about the significant lifestyle shifts that came with her marriage to George Clooney, offering candid reflections on her journey from private professional to public figure.

The 48-year-old human rights lawyer recalled the freedom she once enjoyed in managing her public image. "It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got," she shared. "It was something new to navigate."

Before her relationship with the 65-year-old Oscar-winning actor took center stage, Amal maintained clear boundaries between her work and personal spheres. "I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different," she explained. "I was able to not have them mix… and then I got married and that changed quite a lot."

When Amal and George first connected in 2013, the couple found themselves constantly pursued by photographers and media whenever they appeared in public. Amal described the initial adjustment as challenging, particularly as she worked to reconcile her public presence with her professional responsibilities. "At first I was kind of conscious of that one-dimensional view where I felt like, well, I can't be seen wearing this dress or doing this because I'm in front of a judge on Monday," she recalled.

However, she emphasized that these concerns ultimately proved less significant than she initially feared. "But you know it just doesn't matter as much as living your life, and, ultimately, if you're good at what you do, that is going to shine through or not," Amal noted.

The lawyer maintained that her commitment to her family and relationship took precedence over self-consciousness about public perception, allowing her to pursue activities that mattered most to her without reservation.

The couple married in 2014 and currently reside on a farm in France with their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
