Why Anna Wintour Isn't in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

April 22, 2026

Anna Wintour does not make an appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, despite earlier suggestions that the Vogue editor might have a cameo role in the film.

Though the 76-year-old had indicated during a recent interview that she could potentially appear in the sequel, director David Frankel clarified on the Back Row podcast that her involvement didn't materialize—and wasn't part of the plan.

"That felt too meta to us to put her in the movie," Frankel explained, questioning what narrative reality the filmmakers would be working within by including her.

Wintour did make a visit to the set while production took place at Dior's offices. During that visit, she posed for photographs with the cast and participated in filming a comedic bit. However, technical issues prevented it from being used in the final cut.

"Unfortunately, Anna jumped her cue, so the shot isn't always in focus. And I didn't want to do a second take. I can't ask Anna to do take two," Frankel said.

Screenwriter Alina Brosh McKenna revealed that Wintour offered production feedback while observing the work. While standing near the monitor on the Dior set, Wintour made an observation about the floral décor.

"She said the flowers are the wrong color…Dior would only have white flowers," Frankel recalled of her note.

"But also there's too many of them," McKenna added. "So I came running out and I was like 'David, kill the flowers.' And then we only have one vase."
