Anne Hathaway Brings Her Press Tour Full Circle With Iconic Green Coat From Original 'Devil Wears Prada'

Anne Hathaway made a sentimental fashion statement as she wrapped up the promotional circuit for The Devil Wears Prada 2. The 43-year-old star was spotted leaving The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, April 29, wearing the very same green coat that defined her character's transformation in the original film—a two-decade callback that brought her tour to a meaningful close.
The styling choice was intentional, according to Hathaway's stylist Erin Walsh. "Annie wanted to wrap the tour up with this nod to the film," Walsh explained to Vogue. "Since it was the last moment of the tour, it felt like such a special piece." The piece itself carries its own story: Walsh revealed that Hathaway acquired the coat through an auction.
The green jacket holds particular significance in the Devil Wears Prada legacy. In the first film, the coat appeared during Andy Sachs' pivotal makeover sequence, a moment that costume designer Patricia Field has long cherished. Speaking to EW in 2016, Field described the garment's impact: "I loved it because of the color: It was the first thing that you saw, it was striking, and I think it hit the mark. For me, the success of the clothing is not only that it looks good, but it has to tell the story. So when she's walking in these streets that are gray and gritty, she popped."
The fashion choice served as a full-circle moment for Hathaway, tying together two decades of the beloved franchise and marking the end of her promotional journey for the sequel.
