Armie Hammer Returns to Screen in Action-Thriller 'Citizen Vigilante'

Armie Hammer has landed a leading role in the action-thriller Citizen Vigilante, which became available on major streaming platforms including Apple TV, YouTube, and Prime Video in the U.S. starting Friday, June 19.

Directed by Uwe Boll, the film marks Hammer's return to a prominent on-screen position. The movie also features Costas Mandylor, known for his work in the Saw franchise, and centers on a wealthy American businessman whose violent vigilante operations transform him into both a fugitive and a viral sensation.

Hammer portrays Sanders, an affluent American businessman based in Zagreb who inherited a sprawling real estate fortune from his deceased father. Intelligent, isolated, and emotionally damaged, Sanders launches a campaign targeting violent offenders, rapists, and corrupt judges whom he believes escaped adequate consequences through the justice system.

As Sanders' brutal activities gain momentum online and in media coverage, he simultaneously becomes a wanted fugitive and an unexpected folk hero. However, not everyone regards him as a savior. Interpol Chief Henry, portrayed by Mandylor, views Sanders as a serious danger to society and orchestrates an international manhunt to apprehend him before his reach expands further.

According to the official synopsis from distributor Quiver Distribution, the film explores how Sanders' campaign gains traction while polarizing public opinion about his methods and motives.

The release arrives amid existing controversy. Boll has stated that the film faced effective suppression in Germany following disputes with the country's FSK ratings board over its classification. The director has characterized the project as "an action film inspired by real events, based on real cases and a commentary about injustice."

Hammer recently addressed his past controversies, stating he "didn't do" what people had accused him of.
