BABYMONSTER Debuts "CHOOM" as Third Mini-Album Title Track, Breaks Sales Record

BABYMONSTER has made their comeback. The seven-member South Korean girl group under YG Entertainment unveiled their third mini-album on Monday, May 4, with "CHOOM" serving as the lead single.
The group released the project without member Rami, who sat out the recording and production process due to health reasons. YG Entertainment initially announced Rami's hiatus in May 2025.
The track's title translates to the Korean word for "dance," and the group directly references their current lineup in the song's lyrics, stating "Yeah, I know we're seven but we ate," while emphasizing their collective strength.
The release proved commercially successful, moving over 387,000 copies during its opening 24 hours—marking the highest first-day sales in the group's history. The accompanying music video also secured the No. 1 spot on YouTube's Top Trending Music Videos chart.
Member Chiquita explained the song's appeal in a statement, noting that while BABYMONSTER has previously showcased hip-hop-driven material with commanding presence, "CHOOM" represents a shift toward more inclusive energy. She highlighted the chorus as a standout moment, pointing to the dramatic beat transition as a key element fans should focus on.
Ruka shared her perspective on the track's performance dimension, expressing hope that listeners would feel compelled to witness the choreography firsthand. She described the song and dance routine as possessing a contemporary edge while exploring deeper artistic territory than the group's previous performances.
YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyuk-juk detailed the extensive creative process behind the choreography in an announcement video. Given the song's dance-centric nature, he emphasized the importance of creating standout movement. The development involved collaboration with multiple choreography teams—initially five, then an additional five—before he personally reworked the chorus choreography to meet his vision. He noted that this represented a significant investment compared to his typical approach of engaging two or three choreography teams, describing the overall journey as demanding and lengthy.
