Beartooth's Caleb Shomo Comes Out as Gay; Wife Fleur Expresses Support as Marriage Ends

Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo has publicly come out as gay, sharing an extensive personal statement on his Instagram account Saturday, May 23.
In his message, the only remaining founding member of the rock band addressed years of speculation about his personal life. "There's been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late, and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further," he wrote. "I am a proudly gay man."
Shomo reflected on how his internal struggle has shaped his creative output over the years. He noted that Beartooth's earlier albums explored themes of religious upbringing, depression, and self-hatred—elements he now understands were connected to his unreconciled identity. "I am grateful for all these albums, yet feel embarrassed at times that I wouldn't allow myself to really dig up the roots for so long," he shared.
The musician described spending a decade using alcohol to suppress his feelings before committing to sobriety and self-exploration. That journey, he explained, led him directly to accepting his sexuality and pursuing self-love. As he approaches new music, Shomo committed to complete authenticity: "Whatever happens, I will express myself whole heartedly and fully. I will only do what makes me happy at the deepest level and what is the most honest depiction of who I am."
He concluded his statement with encouragement for others navigating similar struggles, urging them to practice self-compassion and honesty rather than burying difficult emotions.
Fleur Shomo, his wife of 13 years, released her own statement in response. She confirmed that their marriage has ended but emphasized her enduring support for Caleb's wellbeing. "I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world," she wrote.
Fleur described the emotional complexity of the past months, acknowledging both her desire to help him through his journey and the personal toll the situation has taken. She reflected on the duality of supporting her husband while simultaneously grieving the loss of their marriage. "To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out," she explained.
Despite the pain, Fleur expressed gratitude for their nearly 14 years together, characterizing their marriage as "wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love." She asked fans to continue supporting Caleb and offered hope to others navigating similar circumstances.
