Belmont Cameli Learned to Skate for 'Off Campus' Role, Details Intense Training Regimen

Belmont Cameli may convincingly portray a hockey player in the upcoming series Off Campus, but the 28-year-old actor had never stepped onto the ice before landing the role of Garrett Graham.
Speaking on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio, Cameli detailed how he approached the challenge of becoming a proficient skater for the production. "I had never played hockey before," he explained. "As soon as I booked Garrett Graham, I went and I started training by myself in L.A. And then when we got to Vancouver, we did another couple weeks of bootcamp."
The actor credited Amazon with providing comprehensive support for his athletic preparation. "Amazon provided us a great coaching staff, really good support system, all the best gear, and a clean sheet to skate on for two and a half hours every single day," Cameli said. "So it was a real grind. I am happy to say now that I can skate fast and stop hard."
Beyond his own performance, Cameli expressed admiration for the technical expertise demonstrated by the production crew while filming on ice. He highlighted the innovative camera work that went into capturing skating sequences, including a puck cam that glides across the ice surface with a remotely operated robotic lens.
"Sean, our camera operator, is skating around pushing the sled," Cameli noted. "We built a rig for camera that we push ourselves that shoots up into our grill so that's getting the reaction shots. It's a really innovative process."
He also singled out the sound department for their skating abilities. "Albert, who is our sound guy, is the best skater in the arena at any given moment. He's incredible!"
