Benedict Cumberbatch Gets Into Tense Exchange With Cyclist on London Street

Benedict Cumberbatch found himself at the center of an on-street altercation this week after a video surfaced showing the actor in a tense exchange with a fellow cyclist.
The incident, which took place on Monday, May 11, was captured and shared by The Straits Times on Instagram. The footage showed the 49-year-old star, wearing a bike helmet, engaged in a heated dispute with another man on a bicycle in London. The confrontation appeared to stem from disagreements over cycling traffic violations.
The unidentified cyclist accused Cumberbatch of multiple infractions, specifically claiming the actor ran red lights. "You're deluded, you're lying. I was behind you the entire time," the cyclist stated, his face obscured throughout the exchange.
Cumberbatch pushed back against the allegations, asserting that the other man had "verbally abused" him and that he had applied his brakes in response. The cyclist countered sharply, saying, "Oh no, I verbally abused you because you completely and repeatedly broke the law."
When pressed further, the Sherlock alum initially denied the charges again before conceding that he had committed the violation "once," taking responsibility for that single instance.
According to Page Six, the confrontation lasted approximately 10 minutes before the cyclist departed the scene. Cumberbatch subsequently remained in the area to interact with onlookers and pose for photographs.
An eyewitness who observed the encounter described it as "crazy," noting that the other cyclist appeared to have followed Cumberbatch before intensifying his anger upon recognizing him. "It was such a pompous road rage it almost felt like it had been staged," the witness shared.
