Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland & Michelle Williams Mark 25 Years of Destiny's Child's 'Survivor'
A quarter-century milestone brought the members of Destiny's Child together on social media this weekend. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams each shared tributes on Instagram on Saturday to mark 25 years since the release of their third studio album, Survivor.
The record spawned several hit singles, including the title track "Survivor," "Bootylicious," "Emotion," and "Nasty Girl"—the latter released as a single only outside North America. Following its 2001 debut, the album earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards and claimed the American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Album that same year.
Beyoncé's post highlighted the bond the trio has maintained through the decades. "Today celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Destiny's Child's third album, Survivor," she wrote. "To my soul sisters I thank God for you both. It's an honor to sing through life with you ladies by my side. Behind the curtains Beyond the lights Forever my Angels. Ma kee ta ta. Happy 25th Anniversary!"
Kelly Rowland reflected on the passage of time in her own message. "Where did the time go… 25 years is crazy. I love you BB. I love you Mimi. What a beautiful journey we have been blessed to have. DC for life. I love you. P.S y'all owe me a wig or that damn helicopter owes me a wig," she wrote, referencing an on-set moment from the album era.
Tina Knowles, Beyoncé's mother who worked as a stylist for the group during that period, chimed in with her own memories. "I never laughed so hard when your wig came off. And we all went chasing behind it. that was such a special time. I'm smiling from here to ear thinking that cold morning on the Malibu Beach. My babies, all three of you killing the game. And knowing that we are all survivors.!!" she commented.
Michelle Williams expressed her gratitude for the experience and the sisterhood. "Listen! I am stunned that it's the 25 year anniversary of the album Survivor! Destiny's Child made such an impact on this earth and I'm truly humbled to a part of history! I was soooooooooo green in this era! LOLOLOL! Beyoncé and Kelly, we really did this!!!! I can't thank you ladies enough for showing me love, loyalty and true sisterhood!" she wrote. She went on to acknowledge the broader team that contributed to the album's success, noting: "I must give honor to every person who had a hand in this era……management, styling, glam, label departments, publicity, touring, EVERYBODY!!!! Beyonce and Kelly I love you ladies forever!"
The trio has reunited on stage in recent years. Most recently, they performed together during Beyoncé's final Cowboy Carter Tour date in Las Vegas last July, with "Bootylicious" among the songs they delivered. Prior to that appearance, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland came out to support Michelle Williams on opening night of her Broadway musical Death Becomes Her in November 2024.
