Lizzo Releases "Bitch" as Title Track From Forthcoming Album

Lizzo is moving forward with her new era. The artist has released "Bitch," serving as the lead single and title track from her upcoming album of the same name.

The track draws inspiration from two iconic songs: Meredith Brooks' 1997 hit "Bitch" and Missy Elliott's 1999 track "She's a Bitch." Both artists received writing credits on Lizzo's new version.

In the chorus, Lizzo delivers a powerful message of self-acceptance and confidence, touching on themes of duality and embracing all facets of one's identity.

The album marks an evolution of a phrase Lizzo popularized on her 2017 breakthrough hit "Truth Hurts," which featured the now-iconic declaration "I'm 100% that bitch." That mantra has now become the conceptual foundation for her new project.

Discussing the album's title and mission, Lizzo shared her vision for the project. "Reclaiming the word Bitch is power – it's taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love," she explained. "So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliot. It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100% that bitch!"

The album drops June 5.
