Brandon Clarke Dead at 29; Death Investigated as Possible Overdose

NBA player Brandon Clarke has died at age 29. The Memphis Grizzlies forward's death is under investigation as a possible overdose.
Authorities told an NBC affiliate that drug paraphernalia was discovered inside the home where Clarke passed away in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an emergency call at approximately 5pm local time on May 11 and found Clarke deceased upon arrival.
The Grizzlies released a statement mourning the loss of their teammate. "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke," the organization said. "Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an ever better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."
Just last month, Clarke made headlines following an arrest for speeding and possession of a controlled substance. He was found with 230 grams of kratom at the time of the arrest, according to ESPN.
Kratom is marketed as a supplement with various purported benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is sold as an energy booster, mood lifter, pain reliever, and as a remedy for withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting opioids.
