Jessica Vosk Opens Up After Missing Out on Tony Nomination for 'Beaches'

Jessica Vosk is addressing her exclusion from this year's Tony Award nominations following her widely lauded performance in Broadway's Beaches.
The theatre star currently embodies Cee Cee Bloom—the character famously originated by Bette Midler in the 1980s film—and has garnered critical acclaim for bringing the role to life on stage. Many observers had pegged Vosk as a potential contender in the Best Actress in a Musical category, though she ultimately did not advance to the final slate of nominees. The production itself received no Tony nominations across any category.
The Best Actress in a Musical field went to Sara Chase (Schmigadoon!), Stephanie Hsu (Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show), Caissie Levy (Ragtime), Marla Mindelle (Titaníque), and Christiani Pitts (Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)). Lea Michele also found herself without a nomination in the category.
While the Tony snub stung, Vosk's work has not gone unrecognized elsewhere. She earned a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance and an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Broadway Musical.
Vosk took to TikTok to share her perspective on the news, posting a video where she reflected on the experience with candor and grace.
"Happy Tony nomination day," she began. "I woke up at 8:00 a.m. without an alarm because [of] the anxiety. And it's the first time I've sat with the possibility of even being nominated for anything Tony-wise, and it was really exciting."
She continued: "And while I wish I could also be up there with all those incredible ladies, it's been incredible to watch them all season and even be a part of the conversation. So, onward. I'm going to get a bagel because I believe I deserve carbohydrates, and maybe a manicure and a massage, and then we're going to do a show tonight because that's what we do. Congratulations to everybody. This is like, it's the Super Bowl, babe."
Beaches continues its run at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway.
