BTS Kicks Off 2026 American Music Awards with Pre-Taped 'Hooligan' Performance

BTS delivered the opening performance at the 2026 American Music Awards, though the K-pop superstars took a different approach than a traditional live stage moment.

The group's rendition of "Hooligan" was captured on film at their ongoing Arirang World Tour rather than performed live at the ceremony. The track hails from BTS' album Arirang, which dropped in March 2026.

The AMAs took place Monday, May 25 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Meanwhile, BTS has been in the city all week for their tour, with performances scheduled at Allegiant Stadium on May 23, 24, 27, and 28. Following their Las Vegas residency, the group will head to international dates before returning stateside on August 1.

Queen Latifah is hosting the ceremony, marking her return to the role more than three decades after previously helming the event. Taylor Swift leads the night's nominations with eight nods. The show aired live on CBS at 8/7c.
