Cameron Mathison and Vanessa File for Legal Separation Nearly Two Years After Announcing Split

Cameron Mathison and his estranged wife Vanessa have taken the next step in formalizing their relationship status, jointly filing for legal separation this week after nearly two years apart.
The General Hospital actor, 56, and Vanessa submitted the petition together, signaling a cooperative approach to their split. According to court documents, the pair are seeking legal separation rather than divorce at this time, and have indicated they either have already reached agreements or plan to on matters including property division, spousal support, and attorney fees.
The couple first crossed paths in New York City in 1998 before marrying on July 27, 2002. They share two adult children: son Lucas, 23, and daughter Leila, 19. Mathison and Vanessa announced their separation on July 31, 2024, just four days after marking their 22nd wedding anniversary.
Despite their split, the two have maintained a close relationship. When Mathison lost his home during the devastating January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, he moved in with Vanessa. In a September 2025 interview, Mathison reflected on how the shared experience affected their dynamic.
"We have a lot of love for each other, but there was also a lot of pain at that time," Mathison explained. "I really feel — I think I can speak for Vanessa as well, because we've talked about this — in that moment after the fire, I stayed in the kids' room in her place. It was as if going through that together just erased a lot of the negativity and just kind of shortened that [post-breakup] timeline."
