Carlos Alcaraz Sits Out French Open and Rome as Wrist Injury Forces Break

April 23, 2026

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz announced on Friday that he will miss the upcoming Rome Open and French Open at Roland-Garros, stepping back from competition to address a wrist injury.

The 22-year-old seven-time Grand Slam champion shared the news via social media, explaining that medical tests informed the decision to sit out both tournaments while his injury heals. "After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court," Alcaraz wrote.

He acknowledged the difficulty of the situation while expressing confidence in his recovery. "It's a complicated moment for me, but I'm sure we'll come out stronger from here," the athlete added.

The injury occurred during Alcaraz's match at the Barcelona Open on April 14. During that event, he described the moment his wrist gave way and how discomfort gradually intensified throughout the match. "It's a situation I thought I had previously experienced and that it wouldn't get worse," he explained at the time. "I have to listen to my body."

Alcaraz emphasized the importance of returning home to begin his rehabilitation program with his team immediately following the Barcelona tournament.

The Roland-Garros official account responded to his withdrawal announcement with supportive words. "Wishing you all the best in your recovery Carlitos, we'll miss you," the tournament posted.
