Carson Daly on His Dating Dealbreaker for His Kids: 'Am I Gonna Get Canceled for That?'

Carson Daly has opened up about the one dating requirement he hopes his children will consider when they enter relationships.
The 52-year-old television host, who shares four kids with wife Siri Pinter—Jackson, 17, Etta, 13, London, 11, and Goldie, 6—discussed his parenting philosophy during a Monday appearance as co-host of Today With Jenna and Sheinelle.
When the topic turned to dating advice, Daly didn't hold back. "The only reservation I would have for my kids would be, like, [dating] a vegan or something like that maybe," he said, prompting laughter from the studio crew. Immediately questioning his own candor, he added, "Is that bad to say? Am I gonna get canceled for that?"
Co-host Jenna Bush Hager pressed for clarification, asking if Daly simply wanted his children's romantic partners to be meat-eaters. He confirmed as much, explaining his reasoning: "Yeah, I mean, look at me! Food is, like, a really important part of, like, the fabric of our family."
Daly expanded on his perspective, underscoring food's central role in his household. "If we didn't have food, I wouldn't talk to my wife about anything," he said. "It holds us together. So if one of them brought home a date who was super picky. Like, 'I don't eat anything — fish from the sea, cows that go moo.' Like, I've got a Traeger [smoker], bro."
The host was careful to draw a distinction, clarifying that his comments don't apply to people managing dietary restrictions due to allergies. "I'm not the devil!" he quipped. "I don't wish illness on boyfriends!"
Daly painted a hypothetical scenario to illustrate his concern: a family Sunday gathering where he and Siri prepare an elaborate meal featuring homemade pizzas, only to have a guest unable to participate in the dining experience. "I would just be like, 'He's a loser. Dump him,'" he joked.
Daly and Pinter have been together for more than two decades, marrying in 2015.
