Netflix and the BBC have revealed the first promotional image of Charlie Heaton in his role for the new 'Peaky Blinders' prequel series heading to screens.

The 'Stranger Things' star will headline the continuation of the beloved franchise, which has been written and created by Steven Knight. Heaton takes on the part of Charles Shelby, appearing alongside Jamie Bell in the production.

Set a decade following the end of World War Two, the series explores a period when "the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy."

The story follows Charles Shelby as he attempts to establish a normal life after experiencing combat, much of it in occupied territories. Years have passed since he last encountered his half-brother Duke, portrayed by Bell. Having distanced himself completely from both the Peaky Blinders organization and the extravagant Shelby family world, Charles now faces the question: can one truly break free from their own family legacy?

The ensemble cast also features Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski.

The series will run for six episodes, each running 60 minutes. In the United Kingdom, viewers can tune in on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, while international audiences will access the show through Netflix. Production is currently taking place in and around Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.

A second season is already in development, with original 'Peaky Blinders' lead Cillian Murphy attached as an executive producer across both installments.
