Chelsea Handler Discusses Disappointing Date with Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay

Chelsea Handler opened up about a romantic misadventure during an appearance on Kristin Cavallari's podcast, Let's Be Honest, sharing details of her time with celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

The 51-year-old comedian recalled how the connection began. "We were talking on the phone and flirting a little bit," Handler explained. "I was at a hotel with some girlfriends, and he knew the hotel well. He wanted to order room service—food for us. He was like, 'Let me order your food for you. I love that hotel.'"

What happened next caught Handler off guard. When the bill arrived, hotel staff presented it to her rather than to Flay. "I'm like, 'What?'" Handler said. "And then somebody was like, 'Oh, yeah. He's really cheap.' And I was like, 'Oh, I hate cheap.'"

Handler, 51, made clear her expectations around generosity in relationships. "If you're penurious, I'm not interested in you," she stated. "I'm generous and I like people to be generous with their money."

Despite the awkward phone interaction, Handler and the 61-year-old chef did eventually meet in person. However, that encounter didn't fare any better. "It was messy," Handler concluded, indicating the two weren't compatible.
