Chris Brown Speaks Out After Arrest Made in Shooting Incident Near His Los Angeles Home

An arrest was made in connection with a shooting incident that occurred outside Chris Brown's Los Angeles home on Friday, May 1, with authorities confirming the incident took place around 4pm PT.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area, leading to the apprehension of a suspect identified as Markeith Cungious. According to law enforcement, the weapon used was a CO2-style, air-powered handgun rather than a traditional firearm. Cungious was charged with assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm—a distinction made because of the type of gun involved.

The suspect was taken into custody at the Van Nuys Station around 8:30pm and subsequently released on bond the following day after noon.

According to reports, the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving a woman who allegedly refused to leave the area. The situation escalated when the woman drove her vehicle over the suspect's foot, prompting him to fire shots at her vehicle. An LAPD spokesperson told media outlets that at the time, it remained unclear who, if anyone, the suspect was working for, and no employment or assignment details could be confirmed.

Brown responded swiftly to the incident through his Instagram story, expressing his frustration at being associated with the event. "AT THIS POINT THIS PATTERN IS OLD," he wrote. "I'm looking at the news like the rest of yall wondering when and where the hell this happened. I been in my crib this whole time. Ain't heard a gunshot, police car, or anything. DONT ATTACH MY NAME TO NONE OF THE BULLSH-T. I got sh-t to do!"

The incident occurred the same day Brown released a new track titled "Fallin'" featuring Leon Thomas. Earlier in the week, the 36-year-old and his partner Jada Wallace announced the arrival of their first child together, marking Brown's fourth child overall. Brown has also been gearing up for an upcoming co-headlining R&B tour with Usher.
