Chris Evans is the newest addition to an already impressive ensemble cast.

The 44-year-old Avengers star has signed on to My Darling California, an upcoming crime-thriller helmed by director Elijah Bynum. Evans steps into a role that was originally slated for Josh Brolin, who had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The film brings together a powerhouse lineup that includes Jessica Chastain, Chris Pine, Don Cheadle, Mikey Madison, and Charles Melton. Production is expected to kick off in late summer or September.

Set in 1980s Los Angeles, My Darling California follows how a single criminal act intertwines the fates of diverse characters: a television personality, his unfulfilled spouse, a country music star, a pair of small-time hustlers, and a formerly incarcerated individual—each pursuing their own vision of success.

Bynum, a writer-director known for crafting compelling narratives, previously helmed the A24 feature Hot Summer Nights, which starred Timothée Chalamet and Maika Monroe, along with the 2023 film Magazine Dreams. Producer David Hinojosa praised Bynum's emerging voice in cinema, saying the director "is one of the most exciting new filmmaking voices today," and noted that My Darling California establishes him as a significant talent. Hinojosa added that the stellar cast assembled for the project positions it as a major cinematic undertaking.
