The 10 Actors Who Auditioned Against Chris Hemsworth for Thor

Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of Thor has become iconic within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Australian actor wasn't the obvious choice from the start. To secure the role of the god of thunder, Hemsworth had to outcompete a field of 10 other actors vying for the same part.

The competition included some heavyweight names from Hollywood. Notably, at least one of Hemsworth's brothers was among those in contention for the role. Several of the other contenders later went on to make their own mark within the MCU, with one actor eventually appearing alongside Hemsworth in Thor productions.

Some of those who auditioned have spoken publicly about suiting up for their screen tests. Hemsworth himself has revealed an interesting detail about his own mindset during the casting process—at one point, he believed another actor, who had already found major success in a different franchise, would ultimately land the part instead of him.

The casting decision ultimately proved transformative for Hemsworth's career, turning him into a franchise cornerstone and beloved figure among Marvel fans worldwide.
