Christopher Nolan is opening up about his decision to cast Travis Scott in his highly anticipated film The Odyssey.

The rapper takes on the role of a bard in the production, and has already appeared in promotional teasers for the project. When asked to explain the casting choice, Nolan articulated a creative vision rooted in literary tradition.

"I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap," Nolan told Time in a recent interview.

Beyond the casting decision, Nolan also addressed the visual aesthetic of the film's armor, which has drawn attention from fans studying the promotional materials. The director emphasized historical authenticity and symbolic design in his approach.

"There are Mycenaean daggers that are blackened bronze. The theory is they probably could have blackened bronze in those days. You take bronze, you add more gold and silver to it and then use sulfur," he explained. "With Agamemnon, Ellen Mirojnick, our costume designer, is trying to communicate how elevated he is relative to everyone else. You do that through materials that would be very expensive."

The film chronicles the legendary ten-year voyage of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he journeys home following the fall of Troy. Based on Homer's epic poem, written in the 8th or 7th century BC, the adaptation will hit theaters on July 17.
