Chyler Leigh and Nathan West End Marriage After Over Two Decades Together

Chyler Leigh is moving forward after ending her long-term marriage to Nathan West.

The 44-year-old actress and Grey's Anatomy star discussed the breakup during an appearance on the Books That Changed My Life podcast, reflecting on the decision to part ways after nearly three decades together.

"I think getting to a point where my relationship with my ex had reached a point where it was just time. It was time to let it go. Even after such a long time. We'd been together… it would be 26 years this year?" Leigh explained.

The pair, who exchanged vows in 2002 and share three children, have maintained a respectful dynamic following the separation. Leigh emphasized that both she and West have worked to keep things civil.

"We're doing all the things that we can, but [it] just hit a point where it was like, 'Okay, what you want and what I want aren't really lining up anymore, and I'd rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger,'" she said.

According to Leigh, the growing incompatibility became increasingly difficult to ignore, especially as it began affecting the entire household. "When it becomes so abundantly apparent, and the kids are picking up on it, and like the whole family, it just shifts the mood and the dynamic of everything," she noted.

Leigh acknowledged that both she and West carried personal trauma from their respective family backgrounds, which ultimately contributed to the tension. "He went through a lot of trauma with his family. I went through a lot of trauma with my family. So we're just perpetuating that cycle. And so it was like, 'Okay, we have to make a choice,'" she explained.

Rather than allow resentment to build, Leigh felt it was healthier for everyone involved to end the relationship on amicable terms.
