Clay Aiken Takes 'American Idol' Stage 23 Years After Runner-Up Finish to Debut 'Rewind'

Two decades after his runner-up placement on American Idol's second season, Clay Aiken stepped back onto the competition's stage to showcase fresh material. The 47-year-old performer appeared during Monday's season 24 finale to deliver his latest single, "Rewind."

The appearance marked a significant return for Aiken, who finished as the runner-up back in 2003. Beyond the solo performance, he joined season 24 finalist Braden Rumfelt for a duet rendition of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"—the very track that helped launch Aiken's memorable run on the show during its Wild Card round two decades earlier.

A notable detail connected the two performers: Rumfelt was born the day immediately following Aiken's iconic Wild Card performance, creating a poignant full-circle moment as the two singers shared the stage together.

Since his initial rise to prominence through American Idol, Aiken has pursued ventures beyond entertainment. He ventured into politics, running for Congress on two separate occasions, though neither bid proved successful.

In his personal life, Aiken co-parents his son Parker with Jaymes Foster, the sister of renowned music producer David Foster. Parker is set to reach his 18th birthday this year.
