Peacock Cancels 'Clueless' Sequel Series Featuring Alicia Silverstone
The streaming platform Peacock has decided not to move forward with a 'Clueless' sequel series that had been in development at the service.
The project, which would have brought Alicia Silverstone back to play the beloved character Cher Horowitz, will no longer be produced at Peacock. The series was first announced as being in development last April.
Though the Peacock deal is off, insiders indicate that CBS Studios and Paramount have maintained enthusiasm for both the project and the 'Clueless' intellectual property itself. Industry observers expect the concept to attract considerable attention from other potential buyers when it returns to the marketplace.
The proposed series would have explored Cher's life beyond the events of the original film, though specific plot details have not been made public.
The original 'Clueless' film launched in 1995 with an ensemble cast that included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya. The property was previously adapted for television on ABC and later UPN, running for three seasons between 1996 and 1999 with Rachel Blanchard in the Cher role.
Silverstone has not yet addressed the cancellation of the Peacock project.
