Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton Team Up for Indie Thriller 'Hot Year'
Cole Sprouse is reuniting with Kathryn Newton for a new film project. The 33-year-old Riverdale star has signed on to the cast of the indie coming-of-age revenge thriller Hot Year, which marks his second collaboration with the 29-year-old Ready or Not 2 actress.
The project, written and directed by Roxy Sophie Sorkin, brings together an ensemble cast that also features Storm Reid, Dove Cameron, J. Smith Cameron, and Owen Painter.
The film is set in a small Pacific Northwest town gripped by an intense heatwave, where two childhood best friends find their relationship tested after a revenge scheme against an ex-boyfriend takes a violent turn they can't undo. As one nightmarish evening unfolds, the pair must grapple with the fallout of their actions while confronting buried trauma, questions of loyalty, and their own identities.
This marks the second time Sprouse and Newton have worked together on screen. They previously appeared in the 2024 horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, which centered on a teenage girl who develops romantic feelings for a corpse.
Filming for Hot Year is set to commence in Oklahoma during May.
Separately, Newton is also attached to the upcoming holiday horror film White Elephant, where she'll star opposite Nick Jonas.
