Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc are remembering James Burrows following his passing on Friday, June 19. The acclaimed TV director and producer shaped the careers of countless actors throughout his storied career in television.

Burrows helmed 15 episodes of Friends across the show's opening four seasons, starting with the very first episode. His influence on the cast ran deep, as evidenced by the tributes that emerged on social media.

Cox shared an emotional remembrance on Instagram, reflecting on her working relationship with the director. She recalled his quirky nicknames for cast members and his mentoring approach. "He always referred to us as 'the kids,'" Cox wrote, noting how he guided them through both creative direction and personal matters with candor and insight. She praised his talent and humility, emphasizing how his presence elevated every project he touched.

"You felt safe and confident and man, what a blast we had!" Cox continued, adding that the cast frequently requested more of his time on set. She highlighted his dedication to excellence and his devotion to his family, particularly his wife Debbie. "I will miss you so much Jimmy… the joy and laughter you brought to everyone who knew you," she concluded.

LeBlanc posted a photograph with Burrows at what appeared to be a concert event. "Jimmy, words cannot describe the impact and influence you had on us and everyone who was lucky enough to have known you," LeBlanc wrote. "You sir are a true icon on so many levels. Well wishes in your next act. You will be missed. God Bless."

Beyond Friends, Burrows' directing resume spanned decades and included acclaimed series such as Frasier, Will & Grace, Cheers, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dharma & Greg, and Men Behaving Badly, among numerous others. He also appeared as an actor in various television programs including Cheers, Friends, and most recently in season three of The Comeback, playing himself.
