Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Finale Brings Back Luke Cage, Sets Stage for Season 3

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again has officially wrapped, with Disney+ releasing the finale on Tuesday, May 5. The episode delivered major developments that point toward what's next for the Marvel series, which is currently in active production on season three.

The finale's closing moments brought a significant character return to the screen. Mike Colter made an appearance as Luke Cage, joining Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones. The reunion marked the first time the trio had appeared together since their days on the original Netflix series, with Jessica having reopened her Alias Investigations office in the process.

The return of Luke Cage had already been telegraphed somewhat—Colter was spotted on the season three set weeks earlier, making his involvement an open question. Still, seeing him materialize in the finale provided a tangible link to what fans might expect going forward.

Another pivotal moment in the episode involved Matt making a dramatic choice: publicly revealing his secret identity as Daredevil. Cox was well aware this twist was coming before cameras started rolling. He and Vincent D'Onofrio, who portrays Mayor Wilson Fisk and Kingpin, learned about the reveal during a phone conversation with Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's television head, alongside producers Sana Amanat and Dario Scardapane.

Cox reflected on his initial reaction to the news in an interview with The Wrap. "It was like, 'Okay, this is a big challenge. It's shocking.' I think at that point I thought maybe that would be the final season," he explained. "So I was a little shocked to learn quite soon after that we were going to do another one."

He continued, describing his reasoning for embracing the creative direction: "There was a silence, and I think I said, 'Okay, it's a genie I don't think we can put back in the box. Or at least, I don't want to put it back in the box.'"

The third season is already generating intrigue through set photos that have hinted at additional major plot developments still to come.
