'Death Becomes Her' to Close Broadway Theater in June, Launching Cross-Country Tour in Fall

'Death Becomes Her' is saying goodbye to Broadway this June after a successful 20-month engagement in New York City.
The musical adaptation of the cult classic film earned 10 Tony Award nominations and currently features original cast member Jennifer Simard playing Helen Sharp, with Betsy Wolfe in the role of Madeline Ashton. The show will have hosted more than 900,000 patrons at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre when its run concludes on June 28, 2026.
The production tells the story of Madeline Ashton, a vain actress celebrated for her beauty and success, and Helen Sharp, a struggling author whose life exists in Madeline's shadow. Their complicated friendship fractures when Madeline pursues Helen's fiancé. Seeking retribution, Helen becomes entangled in a supernatural plot involving the enigmatic Viola Van Horn, who possesses a magical elixir capable of restoring youth and beauty. Once Madeline and Helen consume the potion, they find themselves thrust into an eternal battle with immortality, beauty, and vengeance at stake.
Following its Broadway finale, the show will hit the road for an extensive North American tour. The tour begins in September 2026 and will visit more than 30 cities through September 2027.
"Bringing Death Becomes Her to Broadway has been an incredible joy, and we are immensely proud of every artist, musician, crew member, and individual who helped make this show what it is," said Lowe Cunningham, SVP, Head of Creative & Strategy, Universal Theatrical Group. "Night after night, it has been a thrill to watch audiences come together to laugh, celebrate, and embrace the wildly entertaining spirit of this production. We are deeply proud of what this show has brought into the world, and we are excited for its life to continue as it tours across the U.S. and beyond in the years ahead."
