Doechii Makes Statement in Burgundy Marc Jacobs at Met Gala 2026

Doechii stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet for a second time, bringing a refined take on dark femininity to the fashion world's biggest night.
The 27-year-old Grammy-winning artist chose a burgundy wrap dress by Marc Jacobs for the Monday, May 4 event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The designer also crafted a custom headpiece—specifically a hat—that anchored the entire look.
"It's actually a hat. I knew the headpiece was gonna be the star of the show, so we didn't want to do a wig that was too complicated," Marc Jacobs explained to Vogue.
Hairstylist Matthew Jean-Pierre and Malcolm Marquez collaborated to recreate Doechii's signature afro from her debut appearance the previous year. Makeup artist Chelsea Uchenna rounded out the glam with what she described as a "dark, feminine look" designed to complement the artist's "very bohemian, very goddess vibes."
David Webb jewelry completed the ensemble.
Doechii's return to the gala marks a year since her debut, when she attended as part of the hosting committee in custom Louis Vuitton. This year's event celebrated the Met's Costume Art exhibition, which examines "the 'centrality of the dressed body' through depictions and interpretations of the human form in the Met's extensive collection." The 2026 dress code centered on "Fashion is Art," with Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour serving as co-chairs for the evening.
