Ella Bright Performs Her Own Music in Amazon's 'Off Campus' Series

Ella Bright takes on the role of Hannah Wells, a singer-songwriter, in Amazon Prime Video's latest series Off Campus—and she's doing her own singing throughout the show.
The actress spent considerable time preparing for the musical aspects of her character. She worked with vocal coaches during production and made studio visits on her days off to perfect her performance. Her commitment to authenticity extended to learning instruments as well; both she and co-star Josh Heuston, who plays fellow musician Justin Kohl, studied piano and guitar extensively to avoid needing doubles for instrumental scenes.
"I feel very happy to say that it was all me," Bright told Variety about her performances in the series.
Though she initially felt anxious about tackling the musical elements of the role, Bright discovered that performing became one of her favorite aspects of working on the show.
Off screen, Bright brings a distinctly different accent to her everyday life. While she delivers a convincing American accent as Hannah Wells, the actress speaks with a strong British accent in reality.
Bright was born in New York to American parents, but her early years were split between the two cities. "I spent the first five years" of her life "between New York and London," she explained to Island Magazine. She finds it notable that her New York birthplace often surprises people given her accent. "I find it cool that I get to tell people I was born in New York, as I have a British accent, so nobody would know," she said. "Both my parents have American accents, though, so sometimes it kind of throws people off when they hear us speak together!"
