Donald Trump to Be Featured on Special Edition US Passports Marking Nation's 250th Anniversary

April 27, 2026

President Donald Trump's image will soon appear on a special commemorative edition of US passports as the nation marks its 250th anniversary this July.

The 79-year-old president will be pictured on the inside cover of the limited-edition passports, according to an announcement from the State Department on Tuesday, April 28. In the design, Trump stands before the Declaration of Independence and an American flag, with his signature rendered in gold lettering. A separate page features an illustration of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.

"As the United States celebrates America's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. Passports to commemorate this historic occasion," State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement to NBC News. "These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world."

The special edition passport will serve as the default offering at the Washington Passport Agency while supplies last, with between 25,000 and 30,000 copies expected to be available to applicants at the Washington, DC office beginning shortly before July 4. The existing passport design will continue to be issued at other locations and through online channels.

This marks a historic first: Trump is the first living president to be featured in a US passport.

White House spokesperson Olivia Wales emphasized the patriotic significance of the initiative, stating that Trump's "new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America's 250th birthday" and that he "continues to proudly lead a renewal of national pride and patriotism during our historic semiquincentennial celebration."

The passport initiative is part of a broader effort to honor the milestone anniversary. Trump is also being featured on a 24-carat commemorative gold coin, and the Treasury Department announced earlier this year that his signature would appear on US dollar bills—marking the first time a sitting president's signature has been included on paper currency, which is traditionally signed by the treasury secretary and the treasurer.
