Dutton Ranch Cast Weighs In on Major Season 2 Leadership Transition

Paramount+ has greenlit Dutton Ranch for a second season, but the production is undergoing significant creative changes. Season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan is departing, with Benjamin Cavell—known for his work on SEAL Team—stepping into the role for the upcoming season.

The cast has begun sharing their perspectives on the behind-the-scenes shift. Cole Hauser emphasized the normalcy of such transitions in the industry, noting that adaptation is central to the business. "Showrunners change all the time," he told THR. "This business is about adapting. We've been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on."

Kelly Reilly reflected on the first season's completion, saying they "finished [season one] with Chad beautifully" and praised the collaborative nature of the production. "It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making," she remarked. "We're all creative minds and we all work together and I'm so proud of that."

Despite the leadership change, both actors expressed optimism about the direction ahead. Hauser shared that a trusted friend from SEAL Team recommended Cavell, someone he considers dependable. "We went to boot camp together; a lot of time in the jungle together in Louisiana," Hauser explained. "The way creatively that Ben is and the kind of person he is and how his mind works, and we saw a glimpse of it. We had a very good meeting with him, and I cannot wait for this new iteration of Ben and his team of guys that he hires, along with David Glasser and the people who are involved."

Reilly highlighted the continued involvement of executive producer and director Christina Voros, who has been part of the creative vision since the first season of Yellowstone. "Everything we do goes through her brain because she's so brilliant, and she's going to be working with Ben," Reilly said. She also noted that Taylor Sheridan may contribute story ideas for season two. "I feel like we've got a bit of an A-team. I'm excited to get my hands dirty after a bit of time to digest what we've just done. I think time and thought is important. You have to have that. It's not a machine."
