Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga'aia Promote Live-Action 'Moana' at Sydney Premiere Event

Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga'aia made their mark on the blue carpet in Sydney on Thursday, June 25, as they arrived to celebrate their upcoming Disney live-action film adaptation of Moana.

The pair gathered for photos at a special screening held at ICC Sydney Theatre in Sydney, Australia. Johnson, 54, opted for a cream-colored jacket paired with black pants and accessorized with a white floral and green leaf lei. Laga'aia, 19, selected a white floral-print dress for the occasion.

Director Thomas Kail, who helmed the live-action reimagining of the 2016 animated feature, was also present at the event.

What to Expect from the Film

The live-action Moana follows the titular character as she answers the Ocean's call and embarks on her first voyage beyond the reef of her island home, Motunui. Joined by the demigod Maui, she sets out on a transformative journey to restore prosperity to her people.

The Cast

Johnson reprises his role as Maui from the original animated film, while Laga'aia makes her film debut in the lead role of Moana. The ensemble cast features Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, John Tui as Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams as Sina.

Recent casting announcements revealed that Jemaine Clement will reprise his voice work from the animated movies, lending his talents to the character of Tamatoa, the glitzy giant crab.

Both Johnson and original voice actor Auli'i Cravalho are serving as executive producers on the project.

The live-action Moana is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10th.
