Dwayne Johnson Launches Global Press Tour for Live-Action 'Moana' in Shanghai

Dwayne Johnson brought the global press tour for his highly anticipated new film to Shanghai this week.

The 54-year-old star attended a special press event celebrating the live-action adaptation of Moana at The Walt Disney Grand Theatre located within Shanghai Disney Resort. The occasion drew a substantial crowd of enthusiastic fans eager to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood heavyweight.

Johnson made a striking impression in a crisp white suit accessorized with a traditional floral lei during the initial portion of the event. He later switched into a black and red floral-print shirt, layering another lei, while posing alongside a replica of his character Maui's iconic magical fishhook during the photo call segment.

The live-action reimagining follows Moana as she answers the Ocean's call and embarks on a transformative voyage beyond her island home of Motunui. Joined by the legendary demigod Maui, her mission centers on restoring prosperity to her people through an extraordinary adventure across the sea.

Catherine Laga'aia takes on the title role of Moana, while the supporting cast features Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, John Tui as Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams as Sina. Johnson reprises his role as Maui from the original animated film.

In an exciting development, Jemaine Clement is returning to voice Tamatoa, the flamboyant giant crab character he originated in the animated movies. Behind the scenes, Johnson and original voice star Auli'i Cravalho are serving as executive producers on the project.

The live-action Moana arrives in theaters on July 10th.
