Mindy Kaling Celebrates 'Not Suitable for Work' with Cast at Brooklyn Premiere

The cast and creator of the upcoming Hulu series "Not Suitable for Work" gathered in Brooklyn for the show's premiere on Thursday evening (May 28) at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.

Ella Hunt and Avantika walked the red carpet alongside creator Mindy Kaling, who fielded questions about the project. The event also drew appearances from fellow cast members Jack Martin, Will Angus, Nicholas Duvernay, Jay Ellis, Constance Wu, Victor Garber, and Harry Richardson.

The series follows a group of five ambitious professionals in their twenties navigating life and careers in Manhattan's Murray Hill neighborhood, balancing their drive for professional achievement with the possibility of finding personal fulfillment along the way.

During an interview at the screening, Kaling reflected on the show's origins. She drew from her own experiences moving to New York City in her early twenties, describing how she felt underestimated at the time while desperately pursuing goals that seemed just out of reach. She emphasized wanting to move quickly through to a phase of life where she'd gain credibility and financial security.

On the question of whether any characters mirror aspects of her own life, Kaling explained her creative approach: she aims to weave pieces of her own personality into every character rather than creating a single autobiographical figure. While audiences may identify one character as particularly reflective of her, she views each role as containing elements of her own experience.

"Not Suitable for Work" arrives on Hulu on June 2.
