2026 Emmy Awards Shift to Single Nominations Announcement Date

The Television Academy is streamlining its nominations rollout for the 2026 Emmy Awards, consolidating what was initially planned as a split announcement into a single date.

The organization revealed on Tuesday, June 16, that all nominations will now drop on July 8, merging categories that had been scheduled for two separate unveilings. The original plan called for most nominations on July 8, with craft categories requiring peer-group screening panels pushed to July 15.

The shift aims to better synchronize with how Emmy contenders manage their promotional campaigns throughout the season.

Nine additional categories are now part of the July 8 announcement, expanding beyond the original slate. The newly consolidated categories span cinematography, music composition, and sound editing disciplines, including Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (Half-Hour), Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and various Outstanding Music Composition and Sound Editing races.

The voting calendar for this year's Emmys runs tight. Nomination-round voting wraps up on June 22, followed by final-round voting scheduled from August 17 through August 26.

The main Emmy Awards ceremony airs live on NBC and Peacock on September 14 at 8 p.m. ET. The Creative Arts Emmys, celebrating television's technical and behind-the-scenes talent, take place September 5 and 6.
