Noah Kahan Opens 'The Great Divide' With Haunting 'End of August'

April 25, 2026

Noah Kahan's highly anticipated album has landed, and listeners are already celebrating the record's emotional depth.

The 29-year-old Vermont-based artist released the album on Friday, April 24, leading with the track "End of August." The song serves as a sonic connection between this new material and his 2022 studio album, Stick Season.

The opening number struck an immediate chord with fans, though there was initial confusion surrounding its identity. When Kahan teased the project on his new TikTok account called "The Last of the Bugs," many assumed that was the song's title. The mystery was solved when he revealed that phrase actually belonged to a surprise deluxe edition of the album, which dropped the following day on April 25 and featured a track beloved by his fanbase.

In discussing the track's creative vision, Kahan explained that he aimed to capture the essence of late summer in Vermont and small-town quietude. "I wanted to create a scene that just felt like late summer in Vermont or in a small town where there's just that total quiet and you can almost hear music in the air," he shared with Apple Music.

He elaborated on the woodland imagery woven throughout the composition, revealing a personal connection to the landscape. "One thing that my family and I have in Vermont is, like, I walk through the woods and the woods are haunted, but not by mean spirits. We've all individually said, 'Oh, I heard voices in the woods,' and when I was writing that, I wanted it to feel like what those voices would sing if you were just like walking through the woods or driving past the woods in Vermont," he explained.

The atmospheric opening sets the tone for what fans are discovering as a deeply introspective body of work.
