Bob Iger Clarifies Jimmy Kimmel Suspension Was Not Politically Motivated

Bob Iger is weighing in on the controversial suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live, offering his perspective on Disney's decision-making process during a recent conversation with the Financial Times.

The 75-year-old former head of The Walt Disney Company addressed the indefinite removal of Kimmel's late-night program from ABC following the host's remarks about Charlie Kirk's death. That decision had generated considerable criticism from industry figures, including Disney and Marvel talent, fellow late-night personalities, and former Disney leadership Michael Eisner.

Iger emphasized that the suspension was not rooted in political concerns. "That was not the case," he stated. "We thought it was in bad taste… We just wanted him to acknowledge that it was an ill-timed and probably inappropriate comment."

Despite subsequent criticism from Donald Trump, Disney has maintained its backing of Kimmel. The network recently extended Jimmy Kimmel Live through May 2027, signaling its commitment to the program's future.

Iger expressed his full support for the company's handling of the situation. "I'm thoroughly supportive. It's what we anticipated needing to do if the government's threats turned into action," he explained.

Iger served as Disney's CEO from 2005 to 2021, then returned to the role from 2022 to 2026. Josh D'Amaro, who previously held the position of Chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products, was named as the company's new chief executive earlier this year.
