Freddie Highmore is heading back to the small screen with a fresh project that reunites him with familiar creative territory.

The 34-year-old actor has been cast as the lead in the upcoming drama series "I'm Not Here to Hurt You," a collaboration announced Sunday, May 17. The show marks a reunion between Highmore and David Shore, the mastermind behind "The Good Doctor," where the two previously worked together.

The series emerges from a partnership between Sony Pictures Television, Blink49 Studios, and Bell Media's Crave streaming platform. Highmore and Shore co-created the project together, with the actor also taking on an executive producer role.

In a joint statement, the pair expressed enthusiasm about their partnership. "We weren't quite done with each other after all. We're thrilled to be collaborating again, excited to return to Canada alongside our partners at Bell and Blink49 Studios, and grateful for Sony's continued support. And now we have to get to work," they said.

The drama centers on a seemingly respectable man whose life takes a dark turn after a fatal bicycle accident. What follows is a descent into criminal activity, though his actions remain driven by a contradictory mission: to avoid causing harm to others. The character concept presents a complex exploration of morality and consequence.

The show draws inspiration from "The Irish Independent" podcast of the same name, available on Spotify.

Lauren Stein, executive vice president and head of creative at Sony Pictures Television, praised the creative synergy between the collaborators. "David and Freddie have an extraordinary creative partnership built on trust, collaboration, and a shared passion for powerful storytelling. They have a unique ability to create richly layered characters who are imperfect, complicated, and deeply relatable, the kind of characters audiences genuinely care about. We couldn't be more excited to reunite with them for I'm Not Here to Hurt You and are grateful to our partners at Bell Media, Crave, and Blink49 Studios."

John Morayniss, CEO of Blink49 Studios, added his perspective on the project's potential. "David Shore and Freddie Highmore have created a truly compelling and emotionally complex series with enormous international potential."

Highmore's recent work includes a role in the Prime Video series "The Assassin," and he's set to appear in the upcoming Sony Pictures film "Life on Other Planets." His previous collaboration with Shore, "The Good Doctor," concluded two years ago.
