Gerard Butler to Star in World Cup Thriller 'The Nest' as Sniper

Gerard Butler is gearing up for another adrenaline-fueled mission. The 56-year-old actor has been cast in the forthcoming thriller The Nest, an action-packed story centered around the World Cup soccer tournament.
The announcement arrives roughly a month ahead of the World Cup's arrival in the United States, with matches scheduled across multiple venues nationwide.
In The Nest, Butler takes on the role of a sniper who intercepts a mysterious warning transmitted via radio. Facing relentless time pressure, his character must prevent catastrophe by protecting both his loved ones and a crowd of 70,000 spectators gathered at the world's premier soccer championship.
Thunder Road, the production company behind the John Wick franchise, is helming the project. Industry sources indicate the film carries a budget between $70 million and $80 million.
Butler's recent theatrical release, Greenland 2: Migration, has transitioned to the streaming platform HBO Max, now available to subscribers at no additional cost. The post-apocalyptic sequel follows the Garrity family—led by Butler alongside Morena Baccarin and Roman Griffin Davis—as they escape their underground refuge in Greenland and navigate a devastated landscape in pursuit of sanctuary following a catastrophic comet impact that destroyed much of civilization.
