Greta Gerwig's 'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' Slated for February 2027 Theatrical Debut

Netflix has unveiled the theatrical release strategy for Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated Narnia adaptation. The filmmaker's take on C.S. Lewis' "The Magician's Nephew" will premiere in IMAX and wide theatrical release on February 12, 2027, with a subsequent Netflix premiere scheduled for April 2, 2027.
The 42-year-old Oscar-nominated director wrote and helmed the project, which marks the first-ever film adaptation of Lewis' 1955 novel. The cast brings together newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell alongside an ensemble that features Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep.
Gerwig's vision for the origin story taps into a lifelong connection to the source material. "Working with Netflix to bring this film to life has been extraordinary and IMAX continues to be an incredible partner," the director said in a statement. "I cannot wait for people to see the film in theaters on February 12 and on Netflix on April 2."
The announcement arrives as the original novel approaches a significant milestone—May 2, 2025 marks the book's 71st anniversary since its publication date in 1955.
