Hailee Steinfeld Opens Up About Postpartum Recovery, Praises Her Doula's Guidance

Hailee Steinfeld is giving followers a glimpse into how she's navigating motherhood after the arrival of her first baby with husband Josh Allen.
The 29-year-old Oscar nominee posted an update on her Beau Society Substack roughly a month following the birth of her daughter, detailing the wellness practices that have become central to her postpartum recovery.
Among her key resources has been her doula, whom she credits with offering invaluable nutritional guidance rooted in Ayurvedic principles. "She advised me to stick to warm foods during my postpartum recovery to help digestion and boost nutrient absorption, a philosophy that stems from Ayurveda," the Pitch Perfect star explained.
That counsel led to a particularly memorable meal. "My mom made me this amazing albondigas soup the other day. It's one of those rare soups that looks as good as it tastes," Steinfeld shared.
The True Grit actress has also found tremendous value in Heng Ou's postpartum cookbook The First 40 Days, which she's already halfway through. A passage about the vulnerability of new mothers particularly resonated with her. "There's a paragraph early on that talks about how even forty days after giving birth, you're still in such a vulnerable state," she noted. "People understand that about your new baby, but they don't understand that about you, the mom."
Steinfeld emphasized that she's still in an early phase of recovery and is prioritizing gentleness across all dimensions—spiritually, mentally, physically, and nutritionally. She's planning to prepare recipes from the cookbook, including lactation cookies and chocolate mousse.
The actress, who is 30-year-old Josh Allen's wife, first shared photos of her newborn daughter on Mother's Day.
